每年的冬季，秦岭总有几场大雪。
头场雪总是在一个夜晚降临，纷纷扬扬的雪花，在人们温馨的梦中悄然降临。
对于山民来说，头场雪，意味着一个狩猎季节的到来。
山腰小镇非常古老，环绕小镇的古城墙就是证明，虽然城墙只剩下断壁残垣。小镇不是我们想象中的普通意义上的乡镇，它只有九户人，更准确地说，应该是一个小村庄。
小镇属于陕西佛坪县，由于这里是游客进入秦岭深处的最后一个栖息点，所以镇上有一间“山腰客栈”除了经营客栈外，还兼营餐饮。
头场雪降临的第一天，小客栈显得特别的喧闹，这里已经成为进山狩猎者聚集的地方。
此刻虽然已经过了晚膳的高峰期，但是在客栈里饮酒谈天的猎人们意犹未尽。每年头场雪停止的时候，就是灰毛兔、山羊、山鸡外出觅食的时候，那些没脑子的小家伙，总是要等到大雪封洞时才想到要储藏食品。
好狩猎的山民就聚集在这小客栈里，单等大雪一停，马上进山捕猎。猎人都是附近的山民，大家彼此也熟悉，所以，当两条汉子带着一身的雪花进入客栈时，立刻引来众人的目光。
这两条大汉身着冲锋服，脚蹬登山靴，一看就是城里人，一个人高马大，斜挎一支锯短了枪管的“7·9”式步枪，另一个生就一张刀疤脸，眼光与身上背着的双管猎枪枪管一样阴冷。
逮山鸡、捉野兔是冬天一种比较温和的狩猎活动。大雪封山后，莽林一片雪原，雪地平坦如棉，动物的爪印特别清晰，只要在野兔经常出没的地方设下铁丝扣子就可以成功捕获猎物。所以山里猎人通常只带些铁丝夹、单刃刀，再牵上猎犬，没必要带大威力火器的。
看见这俩山外来客，客栈老板曾老五的脸色阴沉下来。
“没有酒了，菜也卖完了。”
“没事，我们自己带着吃的。给间房过夜就中……”
刀疤脸客人笑笑，也许，山民的不友好早在他意料之中。
这两人行李包很大，看上去，不但吃喝带足了，甚至还扛着新式帐篷。
按客人要求安排好房间，曾老五回到店堂，长长叹了一口气。
“各位，喝好就早点歇着吧。”曾老五对大伙说，“这躺进山小心点，见好就收，早些出山，千万不可招惹上雪妖精。”
“曾五爷，啥是雪妖精？”一个年轻猎人好奇地问。
“雪狼啊，只在雪天出现的灵物，惹着它们可不得了，它们嗅觉可灵呢，一旦谁伤了它们中谁，全部狼群就会倾巢而动，无论你躲到哪个角落都能把你拖出来活吞了。”
“群居猛兽嘛，不都是这样的，为什么叫它妖精呢？”
“因为它能催动老天降下妖精雪。”
“妖精雪？是什么？”
曾老五脸上出现惊恐的神色，闭上了嘴，任凭小伙子怎么追问，曾老五再不肯开口。
那一年冬天总共只下了这一场雪，积雪不到一个星期就开始融化。雪融那天黄昏，那两个城里猎人出山了，身上的行李包鼓鼓囊囊，一看便是满载而归。
曾老五一见两人走进客栈，吓得脸色苍白，连连摆手，说什么也不肯提供让他们留宿。
那两人运气还不错，正好镇上有农用车要进城，两人搭便车连夜下山，天没亮就进了佛坪县城。
那夜佛坪，月光皎洁，星光灿烂。
第二天，佛坪县最好的旅店“金山酒店”的豪华客房发生一起离奇命案，两名来自河南的男性旅客，冻死在客房里。
客房似乎遭受了一场大雪袭击，床单、桌椅、沙发、地毯都被覆盖上一层厚厚的积雪，暖空调完全不起作用，两条大汉被活活冻死在鸭绒被子里。
警察在死者行李中发现两具狼尸，厚厚的毛色，白如积雪。
