二十几年前的那年，我刚满18岁，由于粗通些许医学，便被公社抽派到一个叫“鬼子洼”的偏僻的村卫生院去当医生。我住宿的地方被村长临时安排在两间紧挨着一片乱坟茔的破草屋里。据说这屋主人是个孤老太太，半年前因生活所迫，外出讨饭，一直未归。
我对村长满脸歉意地为给我安排了这样两间活人伴死人的住所，虽心有不悦，却也无可奈何。村长临走时还特意在屋子里给我找出了一盏积满灰尘的煤油灯，放在我床头的书桌上，算是晚上照明时用。
我那时的工作极轻松，每天多半是闲着。好在我来时从家里带了不少医书，每每伴着那盏昏灯看至深夜，方才沉沉入睡。
如此过了一个多月。
一天上午，我突然意外地发现：那盏伴我一直亮了一个多月的煤油灯里，居然还保持着满满的一灯油!而这期间，我不曾买过煤油，更谈不上往里倒过油。那么这些天了，灯油为何总不见少呢?莫非这屋里……
尽管我是一名医生，可我还是真真实实地相信这房里肯定是闹鬼了!一想到每天夜里它们都站在我的床前，面目狰狞地看着我熟睡的情景，禁不住一阵惊悸，一阵恐怖!
下午，我将这事说给了村长听。村长也是一阵颤栗，连说：“肯定是闹鬼了，肯定是!以前，那个老太婆住在这里的时候，也总是只见灯亮，不见她打油……”

就在我们等到快有点儿支撑不住的后半夜时，忽然从门外传来了轻微的“咯啷咯啷”的怪声。不好!鬼来了!我和村长的神经一下子都绷紧了，并在小孔前窥探的同时，仍发出睡着时的那种鼾声。
这工夫，从破门洞外塞进了一个圆乎乎的东西，显然是个装油的瓶子。油瓶滚动了一下，紧接着，一个闪着双绿森森眼睛的像狗一样的动物扭钻了进来。由于灯在高处，照在地上的光被桌面挡住，我们并不能看清地面上那个怪物的真实面目。这时，怪物扶起了油瓶，并将瓶系套在脖子上，一步一步朝书桌靠近。与此同时，那“咯啷咯啷”的怪声也随之响了起来，很显然，这是因油瓶磕地而发出来的声音。
那怪物径直来到书桌下，头一缩便退下了油瓶系，然后直站起来，居然像人用手一样把油瓶从地上举放到了书桌上。跟着，它轻轻一跳，上了书桌。这时，我们借着灯光仔细一瞧，天哪!那原来竟是一只老花狐狸!只见它如人一样坐在桌上，先用两只后脚掌稳住瓶底部，接着又用两只前掌熟练地搓拧着瓶盖。最后，它又用同样的方法去拧灯盖。可灯盖太热，几次都把它烫得龇牙咧嘴地直甩爪。
看到它这种滑稽相，我和村长实在忍俊不禁，突然哈哈大笑起来。那狐狸一听有人笑，吓得慌忙丢下油瓶，“忽”地一声，从破门洞内蹿了出去。
第二天，那只油瓶被邻村的一个老头儿跑来认了去。老头儿说，两年前他曾打伤过一只花狐狸，还掏了它的窝，昨晚的那狐狸很可能就是两年前被他打伤的那一只吧!老头儿还说，难怪他的煤油没用多少天就又要买，原来是狐狸在报复他呢!
一周以后，我屋子的主人——那个外出讨饭的老太太也回来了。而她对此事的说法则更令我惊讶不已!她说她两年前曾救过一只受了伤的花狐狸，并将它收留下来。
老太太还说，由于自己太穷，以致连灯油都买不起，所以一到夜晚，行动就十分不便。不过，自那只花狐狸在她屋里住下后，她放在桌上的灯里就突然有了油，而且从未干过。而她因害怕每晚摸黑，所以也就一直没有向任何人泄露过……
我愈加不敢相信眼前的事了。是的，纵在今天，也没多少人会去相信世上还有这样一件奇事，可它却实实在在地发生过。
