事件发生在我的少年时代，记得是1964年，那时，我上小学三年级。是一个周末，父亲休息，我没课，父子俩和往常一样，去一个水库钓鱼。这一天，风和日丽，气温不冷不热，很适宜垂钓。鱼儿食欲很旺，拼命咬钩，不到半天时间，我和父亲就收获了三十多斤鱼。其中，有两条鲤鱼个头不小，估计有十来斤一条吧，黄灿灿的，十分招人喜爱。
下午四点钟左右，我和父亲收拾起行头，走在返家的山路上。水库离我家有十来里地，步行得一个多小时，其间，要翻过一座大山。走到半山腰，我和父亲几乎同时听到几声怪叫，怪叫声很惨烈，令人有些毛骨悚然。父亲是位矿工，常年在矿井下挖煤，胆子大，力气也不小，从不相信鬼神一说。他领着我朝发出怪叫声的地方一路搜索过去，到了那里，才明白是怎样一回事。原来，是一只野山羊中了猎人的套在拼命挣扎叫唤。这种套，是利用大小合适的树木设置的，把树用力扳倒，挂上诱饵和机关，猎物撕咬诱饵触发机关，就会被锁住进而被树的强大弹性吊立起来。可怜这只野山羊，因贪吃而中套，叫唤了一阵之后便一命呜呼了。
面对眼前这只足有二十多斤重的野山羊，父亲若有所思，我明白，他在考虑该怎么样来处理这从天而降的山中美味。野山羊的肉质特别鲜美，谁都爱吃。虽然无人知晓，但这野山羊毕竟是那位猎人的劳动成果，顺回家去，怎么说也不太好吧。我望着父亲，心里在嘀咕。父亲还是有办法，他最后决定用我们钓的鱼来交换。两条还在呼吸的大鲤鱼被挂到了树上，野山羊则被父亲和我扛回了家。父亲用交换的方式安慰了自己的良心，而我呢，则从课本上找到了解脱自己的答案。当年解放军叔叔挖了老百姓的红薯，不是也在地里埋过钱吗？这一次特殊的交换，掀起了一场轩然大波，这是我和父亲怎么也不会预料到的结果。
钓鱼，是父亲在那个年代的最大爱好，一有时间，他必然会去垂钓。又一个周末，我又跟着父亲去那个水库钓鱼。然而，当我们爬上山腰，来到留下鱼，扛走野山羊的地方时，眼前出现的一切着实让我和父亲吃惊。这里，正在大兴土木，听说是要盖一座鱼神庙。父亲去村民那里打听了一番，回来时连脸色都变了。不得了，闯大祸了。父亲在喃喃自语。原来，在我们留下还活着的鱼，扛走野山羊不久，那位猎人也到了现场，一个不知内情的山里猎人被这里的情景惊得呆住了。他放套明明是为了捕获山里的野生动物，怎么也不会想到会套上两条鲜活的大鲤鱼，这怎么得了，这不是发生了奇迹，出了活鬼神吗？鱼神显灵了！消息一传十，十传百，把一个小山村闹得沸沸扬扬，大有灾难降临之感。一个道士被请来了，经他装神弄鬼一折腾，这个由父亲和我引发的鱼神事件更是升了级。道士说，非盖一座鱼神庙方可避邪消灾。
为此事件，父亲曾鼓足勇气向村民们说明过原委，甚至找过村支书。但是，他的声音被狂热淹没了，没人相信父亲的话，尽管他说的是真话。真话，不是在任何场合说出来都能管用的。一座鱼神庙被盖起来了，虽然劳民伤财，毫无用处，但是它却能香火不断，经声不绝。人有时一旦被迷惑，就宁愿被迷惑而不愿意清醒。经历过这个鬼神事件的洗礼，从此我不再信鬼信神，怕鬼怕神。赋上小诗一首，以表啼笑皆非之心境：父子用鱼换野羊，公平交易本相当。谁知鲤鱼惹祸端，山野突盖鱼神庙。世上本无鬼和神，自古至今人做鬼。假作真来真亦假，鬼不骗人人骗人。
