那是1958年的事了，当时正处在赶英超美的狂热时期。现在的老赵那时还是小赵，才新婚三天就被村里派到工地建设水库了，吃住都在工地上。工地上劳动强度极大，苦干了几天，人累得身子都瘫软了，但初尝“人间风情”的小赵终于受不了相思之苦，决定利用晚上的时间回去见见媳妇。
这天，工地上完工时已是晚上10点了，小赵找到队长，说：“大大，我想回家看看。”

也是怪了，平时也就是半个钟头就能走出的槐树林，今晚竟成了迷宫——明明还是那条路，可就是走不到头！背上的东西倒不重，但小赵身上的汗还是出了一遍又一遍，心里又怕，越发不敢停了下来。
也不知走了多久，就在小赵濒临崩溃边缘的时候，忽然，“勾勾勾……” 一声嘹亮的鸡叫声从林外传来。

小赵只觉背上一轻，看到有块木板一样的东西飘向了那堆火。那块板在火里“叽叽叽叽”地尖叫着，小赵这下看清了，那真就是一块木板，木板前一个头上还有一个硕大的钉子的颜色。这个板很快就在火中燃了起来， 化作一缕轻烟，随风飘散了。
老孙头走过来，轻轻地拍了拍小赵的后背，小赵这才感到脖子上痛得厉害，伸手一摸，我的娘，后脑脖上有一个小洞，正往外涌血呢！
