关于山魈，现在官方解释为指弥猴的一种，尾巴很短，脸蓝色鼻子红色，嘴上有白须，全身呈黑褐色，腹部白色，多群居，然而住在深山密林的人却知道所谓山魈其实说的就是栖居山里的鬼怪。只不过由于山魈一般只栖于人迹罕至的大山深处加上社会文明的发展和无神论无鬼论的盛行，山魈已经不为人所知乃至不为人所信了而已。但是，人们可以不相信它的存在，却不能否认它的存在。毕竟有些事情科学是无法做出解释的。
我家住在湖北团风的大山深处，我们那里不说和现代文明完全隔绝，但起码也是处于半隔绝的状态。我所居住的那个村子，离县城很远，要走2个多小时才能搭上车去县城，平时除了村里熟悉的面孔，很难再见到其他人了。再加上随着社会的发展，越来越多的人开始出去打工，越来越多的人开始从山上搬下去，到最后只有十来家还坚守在这个祖祖辈辈生活的地方。我在很小的时候就听说过我们这里的山上有山魈的事，可就是没见过。每次，我问母亲关于山魈的事，母亲总是一脸严肃地叫我别瞎说，但同时却总叫我晚上别瞎跑，看着母亲严肃的神情，我只好作罢不再继续追问山魈的事了。不过，心里却总对山魈充满好奇和疑惑，一直到长大。
一天晚上，只有我和母亲2个人在家，吃完晚饭后，我们正在津津有味地看电视。但却被一阵急促的敲门声给打扰了，等到母亲去开门后，母亲一脸严肃地叫我马上帮忙去后边的大山上找人。我心里突然意识到什么，连忙问母亲来龙去脉，母亲告诉我附近居住的邻居张大爷傍晚去山上牵牛后便突然不见了。等到我火急火燎地赶往后山，发现全村人都拿着火把在山上寻人。我们找了好几个小时，几乎都要跑到离我们相隔很远的其他山上去找了，可就是没有发现张大爷的影子。我们的眼睛极力地在微弱的火把下搜寻，可除了阴森森的树影什么也看不到。就在我们不知所措的时候，张大爷家养的一条狗的吠叫声打破了宁静。我们循着狗叫的地方找去，终于在刺窠里找到了张大爷，只不过此时的张大爷已经呈半昏迷的状态，最重要的是他的衣服居然被刺什么的都划破了，而且手上和脚上都擦破了皮，上面还留着淡淡的鲜血。我们来不及多问便将张大爷抬回去好好安顿了。
第二天，张大爷醒来后，他告诉大家，说昨天傍晚他去牵完牛正准备回家，却不知道被什么给迷住了，一下子失去了意识，等到微微醒来时，发现自己不知道在什么地方，而且头晕乎乎的，不久便昏睡过去了。听他说完，除了我以外的其他人恍然大悟——张大爷被山魈给引去了。在随后的聊天中，我得知原来世界上真的有山魈，它们是游荡在山林里的孤魂野鬼，平时有机会会迷惑人，它们会让被迷惑的人翻上平时他们无论如何也不能爬上的山坡，还会将被迷惑的人引到刺窼里，不过结果这些人会受很多皮外伤，它们甚至会“请”人吃“面”和“大饼”，只不过“面”是松针或树叶做的，而“大饼”是牛的粑粑做的。山魈一般并不会将人祸害死，但被山魈迷惑过也并不是没有害处的，据说被山魈迷惑过的人会短寿。后来，张大爷也的确在一年后就过世了，只是不知道这是不是真的和被山魈迷惑有关。
